—I've never sailed before, does it matter?
Of course ! With Skippair, our ambition is to make the sea as wide as possible.
The vast majority of our cruises are quite suitable for novices. Just check at the top of the cruise if the "All Levels" icon is present.
Note that the "First experience" icon, on the other hand, categorizes cruises that require a first browsing experience. These are cruises whose program requires one or more major crossings, or a regatta formula.
—Can I cruise in sailing course mode?
Yes quite ! The Skippair principle is to choose the skipper that fits exactly your cruising desire.
All our skippers are passionate professionals who are eager to share their knowledge with you. However, if you want a sailing course cruise, choose in particular cruises with the "Validation learning" icon. These are cruises with a skipper graduated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This diploma puts the accent on pedagogy, beyond the validation of technical skills.
You can also opt for cruises "Intense", where the priority is to navigation! This is particularly the case of cruises regattas, or cruises with major periods of navigation.
—Can I take young children on board?
No problem. If your kids are very young, we have a range of destinations and itineraries to recommend.
If your kids know how to swim, sailing is easy. If your kids are very young and not used to being on a boat, we would recommend you take cruises with shorter crossings (i.e. the Ireland and Scilly Isles cruises). Some skippers are particularly used to hosting families. Their cruises are indicated with a "Recommended for families" icon.
Be aware that the supervision of your children on board remains your responsibility. The skipper will ensure the safety of the entire crew but will not play the role of nanny.
—Can I offer a cruise as a gift?
1st possibility: you can choose a cruise and book it in "gift mode".
This means you do not have to choose the date of the cruise, but you choose the destination and the skipper. The person to whom you offer the gift will validate the choice of the date with the skipper, according to his availability. To book in gift mode, select this option in the reservation banner to the right of each cruise ticket.
2nd option: opt for Box du Large, one of Skippair's best sellers.
The most: the gift is presented inside a bottle to the sea, in a real pirate box! You then offer the choice of the destination, from a selection of day or weekend getaways throughout France.
—It is not nice, the cruise is maintained?
There are two eventualities.
> 1st case scenario: the skipper judges the weather as too bad to navigate in good safety conditions. In this case, the skipper will propose to cancel or postpone the cruise within the limits of the slots available for you and for him.
> 2nd scenario: the weather is not good but the skipper judges that the navigation does not involve any risk for the safety of the crew. In this case, the cruise is maintained. Weather hazards are an integral part of sailing. Depending on the regions visited, it is therefore important that you take appropriate business with you.
In any case, it is important to note that the skipper remains the only judge to appreciate the weather and safety conditions. But do not worry, less favorable conditions from a weather point of view are also very interesting conditions, which will allow you to discover another sailing experience! Yes, yes, it's promised :)

—What happens if I have to cancel at the last minute?
If your decision to cancel your cruise is more than 40 days before departure, and you have already paid for the entire trip, you will be refunded 50 % of the cruise amount.
If your decision is made within 40 days of departure, you will not be eligible for any refund from Skippair. Only the skipper can, if he wishes, give you the opportunity to shift your cruise. This possibility is subject to the discretion of the skipper, without any obligation on his part.
In order to ensure a full refund in these cases, it is therefore necessary to take out additional insurance.
—How to subscribe to cancellation or multi-risk insurance?
You have several possibilities.
In some cases, your bank or credit card affords you insurance. To benefit from your bank's insurance possibilities, you should use your bank or credit card to pay for your cruise on our site.
Please, however, make sure of the conditions of repayment of this one, which are most often very strict. In order to benefit from wider insurance conditions, we can allow you to take out cancellation or multi-risk insurance with our insurance partner ASSUREVER. The amount of the insurance premium will depend on the formula chosen and your personal situation. This insurance will be offered to you at each cruise booking. —Can I ask the skipper to change the proposed itinerary?
It depends on the type of reservation chosen!
If it is a privatized cruise (you reserve the entire boat), the skipper is at your disposal to modify the itinerary according to your desires, in respect of course weather conditions and safety.
If you embark on a shared cruise (you share the boat with others), it will be more complicated to change the planned route. You can of course share your desires with the skipper, but the skipper will not be required to answer them if they are not shared by the other crew members on board.
But do not worry, the planned itineraries are designed to allow you to discover the most beautiful places! And even if you have already seen one or the other stops, know that the landscapes and the experiences are never the same ones in sailboat!
—Are the skipper's dates flexible?
It depends on the skipper. Also of the type of reservation.
Some offer flexible dates, others do not. To find out, simply consult the calendar of the cruise that interests you. You will see the different dates of departure and return possible: these are indicated by a turquoise background.
If you reserve a private boat, you'll have greater flexibility in dates than for shared reservations. That is why the calendar selection resets when you change your booking mode.
