The skipper

What is your motto ?

You can't own the sea, you have to share it.

How did you come to do this job?

I was born in the Azores, between the wind, whales and sailor stories. After years of fishing and diving, I crossed the Atlantic at the age of 24 - that's when I realized that my life would be on the water. Since then, I've shared this passion on every cruise.

What people say about you?

That I'm passionate, reassuring, and always have an ocean story to tell. And that I make the best grilled tuna in the Azores, it seems!

To know about you, apart from your job?

I'm also a professional diver and spearfisherman, and I run small marine biodiversity awareness projects with local schools. And sometimes I spend hours filming dolphins just for fun.

Life on a journey

Your best memory ?

A summer's night between Faial and Graciosa. The wind was gentle, the sky totally clear, and a family on board saw their very first shooting star at sea. They all made a wish. You can't invent moments like that.

For you, what is a successful sea trip?

When everyone leaves with stars in their eyes, salt in their hair and the impression of having experienced something real. Even those who didn't know anything about sailing leave feeling a little more like sailors.

Your style of practice?

Authentic, committed, but always attentive to each person's pace. I enjoy both sporty sailing in the Atlantic and calm moments watching cetaceans off the coast of Pico.
