The skipper

Let Eric take you on a discovery tour of La Gironde and the Cordouan lighthouse.

What is your motto ?

Cast off and leave the daily grind behind.

How did you come to do this job?

I love telling this story: Like many pro-skippers I started sailing young and took years out to have kids. But I still found the ocean waves were calling me and so I set sail once more. With my wife's support I took a sabbatical training year and passed my profession skipper diploma. I spend 7-8 months/year at sea as during the winter I work on fishing boats in the Bay of Biscay. It's a tough job but it's given me such deep knowledge of the sea and the men and women who work it.

What people say about you?

That'll be for you decide after you've sailed with me.

Life on a journey

Your best memory ?

Moments such as aurora and sunsets, moments that stay engraved on the memory.

For you, what is a successful sea trip?

People who come back for more. There are a whole host of them. That's why I never change my sailing zone.

Your style of practice?

On board everybody's dreams must come true. It's always good if people actually learn how to sail too. I like teaching sea culture and share my love of maritime life. I'd like to be able to teach my crew everything I know as well as all the sea-related stories, tales and legends.
