Check out Han et Ingrid through a detailed interview

The skipper

Han and Ingrid will take you on a catamaran cruise in the Canary Islands during the winter months and in the Balearics during the summer

What is your motto ?

Carpe Diem: you must enjoy every day of life. And flexibility: we can organize everything on water and on land. This can be done for a day or two weeks; everyone does what they like!

How did you come to do this job?

I started sailing when I was about 12 years old in the inland lakes of Holland, then later on at sea. My wife and I met 12 years ago, and we started making boat deliveries for private individuals and became professional skippers. 7 years ago, we decided to buy a beautiful catamaran to specialize in charter, and with this same boat, we have already sailed 56,000 miles. More every mile before, I think we're accumulating 150,000 miles! I love sailing, I love nature, it's my main way of life... Another important thing, about 2 years ago, the whole interior of the boat was refurbished, to be able to welcome people in the best conditions.

What people say about you?

Most people say I'm very relaxed. When we sail, or when the boat arrives at the port, we do the manoeuvres in a very quiet way!

Life on a journey

For you, what is a successful sea trip?

An ideal trip is when we have a favourable wind to sail, when people appreciate it and you see that they are happy to be there. The atmosphere on board is very important, we do everything we can to make sure that people have a great holiday. This is our priority. This includes much more than sailing. For example, information about the islands, a little history or island organization! We also know how to organize a day by car on the island, because we have knowledge of the land and know the beautiful places!

Your style of practice?

First of all, I like people to feel at home. If they want to help with navigation or whatever the task, we will be happy to explain it to them and do it with them. Some people also just want to relax and enjoy? And although they do! We like to show the beauty of the sea: dolphins, whales, wind, stars at night! Because at night you can see so many stars, especially here in the Canary Islands, it is known to be one of the places in the world where you can see the stars best. We have a great love for nature. If people want, we can sail at night, we leave at 3am. It's fascinating to sail at night. As I have studied a lot about weather, tides and stars, we can explain why things happen: why the wind is sometimes strong and why there are clouds. All questions about sailing, weather and the sea are open. It is reassuring for people to learn about the external conditions for sailing.
