The skipper

Meet Pierre, aka Captain Piwi, professional skipper and diving instructor in the Antilles. Discover his style of navigation: always ready to listen to his group and always a great atmosphere. After several years as a diving instructor in Corsica he became a professional skipper and headed for the Antilles. Based in Martinique for over four years now, he invites you on superb diving-themed catamaran cruises. Great atmosphere and great punch guaranteed.

What is your motto ?

"Tout est possible." You just need to mention it! It’s a pleasure to use my skills to do what you want to do.

How did you come to do this job?

It’s through diving that I became a skipper, as the captain of a diving boat. I started diving in the south of Corsica when I was very young and I was a “Sea Guide” instructor for 5 years. At the time I mainly handled motor boats, but little by little, I turned to sail. I appreciated the comfort of navigating in silence, powered only by the wind. I liked it so much that I decided to become a professional skipper and I got my qualifications. I moved to the Antilles a few years ago and set up as a professional skipper. Now I offer different types of cruises, notably diving cruises and I’ve been combining my two passions–on the water and under it–for 4 years now. I also offer additional activities, such as wake board (€90 for an afternoon session) or tow tubing. I like showing people the hiking trails when visiting the islands.

What people say about you?

People appreciate my professionalism, my good mood, my willingness to be of service so they can enjoy their holidays. And that’s how I am… after breakfast! :) They also appreciate the relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and my ti-punch recipe.

Life on a journey

Your best memory ?

Sailing for an hour and a half with a whale and its young jumping alongside. It was at Saint Lucie. You see whales there quite often during the mating season between end of February and end of April.

For you, what is a successful sea trip?

A cruise where folks are happy!

Your style of practice?

I like explaining things, helping people to discover and learn new things. I also like teaching people about life aboard like how to economise water, whether that’s for the washing up or the shower. I also like sailing at night to save time in the schedule, especially the first day on the trip from Martinique to the Grenadine Islands.
