Your dive Discovery dive Sao Miguel
This is one of the best diving spots in the Azores, with incredible visibility!
Set off for a day's exploration of the Formigas and Dollabarat islets, located between San Miguel and Santa Maria, with two dives to spot manta rays, moray eels and barracudas in the canyons that shelter them. There are even a few sharks wandering around!
Please note that you'll need at least Advanced Open Water level to take part in this excursion, as currents can be strong in this area. A picnic lunch is also required.
Henrique, your instructor, will be waiting for you at 7 a.m. to set sail for the Formigas Islands, 60 kilometers offshore. Take the opportunity to admire São Miguel from another angle: from the sea, where you may be lucky enough to share a stretch of the journey with turtles and cetaceans!
Once there, admire the translucent water and catch your first glimpse of fish! It's time to get in the water for your first 50-minute dive in one of the Formigas Islands' many dive spots. Afterwards, you've earned a well-deserved break for lunch in these magnificent surroundings.
In the afternoon, it's off to the Dollabarat seamount, a feast for the eyes. As all good things must come to an end, after your dive you'll head back to the center at around 5 p.m..
Formigas islands
The Formigas islands, with its amazing visibility, are perfect for scubadiving, wathever spot you dive in. Which one will you choose? The wall or the northern tip of the island both famous for sheltering many species of Galapagos or the south of Formigas, famous place of passage of mantas rays?
Dollabarat
At first sight, the spot seems shallow (5 meters) and the superb visibility allows you to observe some beautiful species frpm the boat. Exploring it progressively, we find deeper areas (8-10 meters), which quickly fall to 20-30 meters deep, perfect to observe the abundant underwater life in the canyons and crevasses.
