The skipper

Set sail with Stéphane, our professional skipper in Jersey. Stéphane has been sailing for over 25 years. His sailing experience started on-board his parent's own yacht in Corsica and Greece, then alone as a professional skipper. A diehard fan of sailing, ten years ago he decided to turn his passion into his profession. Since he extensively explored the Channel Islands and the Chausey archipelago and is eager to share his maritime experiences with his crewmates. Click here to find out more about the islands. Stéphane is very familiar with the flora and fauna of the region and will be only too willing to share its wonders. At the right time of season you might have the chance to see seals and dolphins. One of his favourite cruise routes is Granville to Jersey via the Chausey archipelago and the Isle of Sark.

What is your motto ?

There is no place you can breathe more freely than on the deck of a ship

How did you come to do this job?

On impulse I decided to turn my passion into my profession. After 15 years of family cruises in Corsica, Greece and above all the Channel Islands and southern England, I finally left my birth town in Auvergne for Granville, where I had spent my holidays since childhood. After building up experience and passing the necessary diplomas, I have been a professional skipper for 10 years now, mainly off Anglo-Norman shores but sometimes have gone trans-Atlantic to the West Indies and Venezuela.

What people say about you?

They appreciate my professionalism, my affability and the way I share my experience at sea but also on land.

Life on a journey

Your best memory ?

There are many... but I especially remember dolphins scything through phosphorescent waters and various magic moments at mooring.

For you, what is a successful sea trip?

The best cruises combine the pleasure of being at sea, the pleasure of sailing and the pleasure of discovering islands and nature. If we're lucky enough to encounter dolphins and seals, there is nothing left to say. A successful cruise is also when crew members who don't know each other before the cruise team up, get on together like a real crew and arrange to sail again together later.

Your style of practice?

To me, the boat is above all a way to travel, discover, share and meet. The navigation program is varied : a day in sandbanks at Chausey, a week-end at Jersey and its animated so British pubs or a week to discover the Channel islands between wild anchoring and comfortable marinas.
