I started out as a sailing instructor in Le Lavandou and during my military service; I then built my own sailboat to compete in the Mini Transat, which I sailed three times (1985, 1989, and 1991).

Life on a journey

A group of six young Russian executives from Moscow wanted to make a round trip from Marseille to Monaco in three and a half days. They had never been on a boat before, and the conditions were rough (35 knots, easterly wind).
We headed to Port-Miou, and they were already exhausted from the sailing. So we adjusted the itinerary, and despite 3-meter swells, the trip turned into a wonderful adventure, including a tour of the Frioul Islands. They were delighted with their trip, and there wasn’t a single other boat on the water.
It took a lot of effort to manage everything, but it was really nice to chat with them and let them take the helm. The conditions weren’t ideal, but in the end, we’ll remember this as a very positive experience—and, in fact, these same guests have invited us to Moscow.
