Your cruise
This 3-day sailing course departing from Saint-Malo takes you sailing along the coast of Mont-Saint-Michel Bay, with possible stops at Chausey, Saint-Cast, or Granville, depending on conditions.
Suitable for beginners to intermediate sailors, this course offers an introduction to coastal sailing in an area characterized by high tidal ranges.
On the agenda: planning your sail based on the tides, learning to read coastal landmarks, and mastering anchoring techniques, particularly when anchoring over a sandbar.
Your possible stops during this cruise
Here is a sample itinerary for your beginner- to intermediate-level sailing course.
The itinerary and schedule are subject to change depending on weather conditions and safety requirements.
Day 1 – Saint-Malo → Chausey.
Welcome the crew at the port of Saint-Malo, safety briefing, and assignment of roles on board.
Preparation for the voyage, starting with an introduction to tides: reading the tide table, estimating arrival times at the anchorage, and planning the route.
Sail to the Chausey Archipelago, taking into account the bay’s currents and the extreme tidal range.
Arrival at Chausey and anchoring exercise: mooring in a buoy box or at anchor. Time to explore the archipelago and overnight at anchor.
Day 2 – Chausey → Saint-Cast.
Departure from Chausey and sailing along the Emerald Coast.
Trainees practice coastal navigation: reading navigational landmarks, identifying buoys and markers, and preparing for maneuvers.
Arrival at the port of Saint-Cast and participation in mooring maneuvers. Overnight stay at the port.
Day 3 – Saint-Cast → Saint-Malo.
Preparation for the return voyage and sailing to Saint-Malo.
Trainees actively participate in steering the boat and performing maneuvers, putting into practice the concepts covered during the course: sailing with the tides, route selection, and managing the entry into port.
Arrival in Saint-Malo, tidying up the boat, and end-of-course debriefing.
Note: For private courses, you can book up to 5 days. The itinerary is to be determined with the skipper.
