Set sail from Saint-Malo for a sailing course right in the heart of the 2026 Route du Rhum. Two sessions are available: a 3-day introductory course to learn the basics or get back into sailing at a leisurely pace, and a 4-day advanced course to gain confidence on board and watch the race start from the water. From sailing in Saint-Malo Bay to learning maneuvers and exploring the race village, experience this iconic event up close with the boats and sailors.

First Course – 3-Day Introductory Course
Monday, October 26, through Wednesday, October 28, 2026
Day 1 – Getting to Know the Boat and First Sailing Sessions.
After settling in on board, you’ll learn how a liveaboard sailboat works and the main safety guidelines. You’ll help sail out of the harbor, hoist the sails, and perform your first maneuvers in Saint-Malo Bay. Return to the harbor at the end of the day and spend the night on board.
Day 2 – Learning the basics of sailing.
On this second day, you’ll continue learning how to handle the helm, perform maneuvers, and navigate using a nautical chart. We’ll sail in Saint-Malo Bay, returning to the harbor for the night. In the evening, you can enjoy the Route du Rhum festival.
Day 3 – Putting theory into practice and returning to Saint-Malo.
You’ll review the various concepts covered during the course to gradually gain more confidence on board. After a final sail in the bay, the return to Saint-Malo is scheduled for around 5:00 p.m.
During this first course, you’ll spend both nights aboard the boat at the port of Saint-Malo.
Second Course – 4-Day Advanced Course
Thursday, October 29 through Sunday, November 1, 2026
Day 1 – Getting Acclimated and Reviewing Maneuvers.
You’ll get your bearings on board and begin reviewing the various maneuvers. This first day will also allow us to assess everyone’s knowledge and prepare for the sailing sessions on the following days.
Days 2 and 3 – Sailing and Advanced Training.
You’ll continue to build your skills during sailing sessions in Saint-Malo Bay and the surrounding area. Depending on weather and sailing conditions, stops and overnight stays may take place in the ports of Saint-Cast, Jersey, or Granville. The program will be adapted to allow everyone to practice maneuvers and gain independence on board.
Day 4 – Watch the start of the Route du Rhum from the sea.
The final day will be dedicated to the start of the Route du Rhum. Depending on conditions, the boat will position itself offshore, near Cap Fréhel, to watch the racing yachts pass by while remaining away from the busiest area. The return to Saint-Malo is scheduled for around 8:00 p.m.

SUN ODYSSEY 410 - 12.38 meters
You’ll set sail aboard a Sun Odyssey 410, a modern cruising sailboat that offers a great balance between comfort and the joy of sailing. Its spacious and safe cockpit is equipped with two steering wheels. The boat also features a spinnaker, which enhances your learning experience and adds to the thrill of sailing when conditions permit.
Inside, you’ll find three bright cabins, a head, and a large, sheltered, and inviting saloon. The layout makes it easy to move between the cockpit and the interior spaces, so you can fully enjoy life on board throughout the course.

The trip begins in Saint-Malo, which is easily accessible by TGV. From the Saint-Malo train station, you can reach the port of embarkation by bus or taxi.
If you’re coming by car, allow plenty of time to reach the port and find parking, as the city gets particularly crowded during the Route du Rhum. We recommend taking the train whenever possible.
